Dear sonja,
In case you missed the back-and-forth discussion between House Republicans and President Obama last Friday, we've compiled some of the best moments for your viewing pleasure.
Go to this link to watch the highlights of the question-and-answer session, including when:
Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) questioned the president on his $3.8 trillion budget which spends too much, taxes too much, and borrows too much. He said, "What were the old annual deficits under Republicans have now become the monthly deficits under Democrats."
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) pointed out that Democrats have already increased discretionary government spending by a staggering 84 percent - in just one year! The Republican alternative - written by Rep. Ryan - would actually curb spending, get control of the debt, and help create new jobs.
Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) challenged the president for failing to live up to his repeated promises to air health care negotiations on C-SPAN. Republicans are working to force a vote on legislation that would open these closed-door meetings to the public and the media.
And there's more. As we kicked off the event I handed the president a compilation of all the alternative proposals Republicans have presented him over the last year to create new jobs, lower health care premiums, and more. He finally acknowledged that we'd been offering solutions - Democrats just haven't listened.
You see, we're not just fighting to put the brakes on their jobs-killing agenda - we're showing what a new Republican-led Congress would do differently.
That's why I hope you'll follow this link to make an immediate contribution of $25, $50, or $100 to help us support Republican candidates who will join our fight for a smaller, more accountable government.
White House spokesman Robert Gibbs admitted this week that "one party is not going to solve" all of the problems facing our country. That's why I need your help to elect a Republican Majority in Congress with the principles, new solutions, and fresh ideas needed to shake up Washington and tackle America's biggest challenges.
Thank you in advance for your help. I hope you will also forward this message to your friends and family and ask them to join you in showing your support.
John Boehner
Republican Leader
P.S. Despite the clear warnings from voters in VA, NJ, and MA, Speaker Pelosi is determined to ram a costly government takeover of health care through Congress "one way or another." And the president just outlined a budget that continues the reckless spending and will triple the federal debt in just ten years. With Washington already awash in red ink, you and I both know we can't afford any of this. That's why I hope you'll consider making a generous contribution today to help elect candidates to Congress that will put a stop to the spending, taxing, and borrowing, and advocate the kinds of free market reforms we need to get our economy moving again. Thank you again.
